Job interview process

How should you dress for a job interview?

You know what kind of job you want. You’ve managed to write the perfect resume. Now it’s time to tackle your interview. The interview is all about presentation. It’s time for a staffing recruiter to see the applicant behind the resume. In this article, we are going to talk about what to wear to your job interview and how to impress your recruiter.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to wear your Sunday best to your job interview. The rule of thumb is to dress for the job you want. Dressing for the job helps the recruiter imagine you doing the job. Your goal is to boost their confidence in your ability to perform the job. Having the skills is a major part of the selection process. But the way you dress and present yourself will determine how well the recruiter can influence a hiring decision.

If you are seeking a clerical job, you will want to dress in business casual attire. If you are seeking an industrial job, you may want to wear jeans and a clean shirt. If you have steel-toed boots, you may want to bring them along. When you work with a staffing agency, things can move fast. You may find yourself going to work right away, so coming dressed in the right attire makes a difference. You don’t want to find yourself missing an opportunity.

Once you have a good clean outfit to wear then it’s time to consider a few other tips:

  • Limit your accessories and jewelry
  • Don’t wear anything that can be distracting in the interview
  • Limit the use of perfume or cologne
  • But, don’t show up smelling like smoke or wet dog

One last thing. When you are all ready to go, take a deep breath, relax, and remember to smile. It will help you to be more confident in your interview.
